GCSE examining board: CCEA
Areas covered at KS4:
At KS4 pupils follow the CCEA GCSE specification. This is a broad course exploring practical work through a range of 2D and 3D processes. This includes; Drawing, Painting, Collage, Printmaking, Textiles, Ceramics and Design work. Pupils create two portfolios worth a combined 60%. One addresses the Formal elements of Art through experimental mark making techniques and media. A second project is developed to a Final outcome. Pupils learn about the ways in which artists, designers and craftspeople work and this understanding is incorporated into the Art to guide and inform direction. This increases critical awareness giving improved understanding and a greater artistic vocabulary. In the second year of the course pupils respond to a stimulus worth 40% interpreting a given theme through a variety of artistic processes. Many of our pupils go on to attend Art & Design A level and college courses.
