At any time, pupils may need additional emotional support, beyond the normal pastoral care offered by teachers. Pupils experiencing emotional problems may find it difficult to engage with learning to reach their potential. The EA HOPE Service, which is run by Family Works in Nendrum, provides an opportunity for pupils to speak to a professional who is not directly involved with their education. By providing emotional support and reducing barriers to learning, the educational outcome is maximised.
Pupils can have access to drop-in support or longer, formal counselling sessions. Our counsellor also provides group work with pupils to focus on key areas that are impacting their emotions or their ability to fulfil their potential in school.
Referrals to this service can come from home, from the pupil, or via teachers. Parents/ carers can speak with Form Teachers for a referral to this service, and pupils can ask any member of staff or post request in the counselling post box on the bottom corridor.
