    Year 11 Mentors

Year 11 Mentors are carefully selected by the pastoral team who work closely with pupils across different year groups. These students are chosen for consistently demonstrating positive behaviour, leadership, and a strong sense of responsibility throughout their time at Nendrum College.

Their primary role is to act as peer mentors to a Year 8 form class. They begin this journey by supporting Year 8 pupils during their Induction Day in June and continue to assist them during their first few days at the college. Mentors help students settle in, navigate the school building, and adjust to their new timetable and routines.

Following this initial support, mentors attend their assigned form class every Friday morning. During these sessions, they guide pupils through key aspects of secondary school life, including adapting to new subjects, building friendships, and managing transitions.

Throughout the academic year, mentors continue to work with their form class on a range of topics such as study skills, managing peer pressure, online safety, and other relevant issues as they arise. They provide consistent support, foster open communication between pupils and staff, and help Year 8 students build confidence during their first year at Nendrum College.

Mentors are trained to listen actively and compassionately, and they work closely with form teachers and the Head of Year to ensure every pupil feels supported and valued.

     Year 12 Prefects

Prefects are carefully selected by the pastoral and senior leadership teams in recognition of their exemplary conduct, leadership qualities, and consistent demonstration of the College’s Core Values – Nurture, Commitment, and Community.

Throughout their time at Nendrum College, these pupils have shown a positive attitude towards learning, respect for staff and peers, and a strong sense of responsibility. They have actively contributed to school life through participation in clubs, extracurricular activities, and by serving as positive role models for others.

The role of a Prefect is a highly respected position within the College community. Prefects are entrusted with supporting both staff and pupils, helping to uphold the College’s high standards of behaviour, and promoting a welcoming and inclusive school environment.

In carrying out their duties, Prefects assist at key school events, represent the College with pride, and help to ensure that every student feels valued and supported. They lead by example in their conduct, work ethic, and commitment to the wider life of the College.

Being chosen as a Prefect is both an honour and a responsibility. It reflects not only past achievements but also the confidence the College places in these pupils to continue demonstrating integrity, leadership, and service throughout their final year.

    Student Council

The Student Council empowers students by providing them with opportunities to express their thoughts on school-related issues. As part of this team, students develop key decision-making and cooperative skills while contributing positively to the school community. These roles provide students with a chance to grow personally, enhancing their educational experience. The leadership team acts as a bridge between the student body and the staff, ensuring that students' voices are heard. Their contributions lead to a more dynamic and enriched school environment, promoting both personal development and a strengthened sense of school community.

    Purpose

    1. Representation: Act as a voice for the student body, ensuring their opinions and concerns are heard by the school administration.
    2. Leadership Development: Provide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills through organising events, leading meetings, and working on projects.
    3. Community Building: Foster a sense of community within the school by organising social events, spirit weeks, and other activities that bring students together.
    4. Service Projects: Plan and execute service projects that benefit the school and the wider community, promoting a sense of social responsibility.
    5. Communication: Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and administrators to ensure a collaborative school environment.
