The Nendrum College Sports Leisure and Tourism (SLT) class ran a charity football tournament before Christmas, in order to raise money for the Cancer Fund for Children. As part of their GCSE course they must, plan, run and evaluate a successful event which the entire school can participate in and enjoy.
With over 100 pupils from years 8-12 competing, the football tournament was certainly a big success. Students enjoyed competitive matches and an on-site tuck shop, superbly run and organised by the year 12 class. With both semi-finals ending in penalties and a very close finals match, the students enjoyed every minute of the event, with team Brazil coming out on top.
Alongside participation and enjoyment levels, the key aim for the class was to raise money for a chosen charity. The Cancer Fund for Children Charity was chosen, and the students loved having a local charity to dedicate this event to. We know that the charity does fantastic work within the local community and we were thrilled to have raised a total of £610.
