Yesterday at a very wet and muddy Mallusk Playing Fields the small team of Nendrum runners braved their way to success at the Ulster Schools' Cross Country Finals.
In a huge field of well over 120 runners Darren Silcock finished a very commendable 77th in the Mini boys race. Darren is a very promising footballer and this additional training will stand him in good stead. In the Minor boys race the squad had the disappointment of losing Saul Minnis through illness however each and everyone did themselves and the College proud. In what could be regarded as the strongest field of the day team despite losing two places right at the death Joel McWilliams led the team home in an excellent 8th position. Martyn Quinn summoned all his strength to finish in a blaze of glory in 9th position. Both of these pupils have now qualified to represent Ulster Schools' in the Irish Finals in a few weeks time. The remaining team representatives included Thomas Gibson, Brandon Nelson, Cameron Foster and Dylon Brown. With the mud becoming ever so treacle like Karl Hoy lined up in the Junior boys race. With a well judged pace he progressed through the field to finish a distinguished 22nd.
All and all another momentous day for the College and we wish Joel and Martyn every success in the Irish Finals on the 9th March 2013.
