Nendrum Vrs Saintfield

The U14 Girls Hockey Team played Saintfield High School on Thursday. The sun was shining and the girls were ready for a great match!
It was a fast paced, lively match from the whistle, with Nendrum and Saintfield both battling for possession. Holly Anderson made a fantastic pass to Lauren Robson who weaved through the Saintfield midfield only to be intercepted by their defence. Saintfield brought the ball back into the Nendrum defensive quarter, and were awarded a penalty corner. The Nendrum defence stayed determined and from the moment the ball was hit off from the side lines, Abi Green cleared any threat with a strong sweep.
Laura Shiefield and Lauren Baxter continued to put strain on the Saintfield defenders but could not find an opportunity to score.
In the last two minutes of the first half Saintfield scored the first goal.
The second half opened with Nendrum playing some fantastic hockey, Alex Dickson made several impressive tackles for her first league match. The girls were determined to get an equaliser. Unfortunately Saintfield gained control of the ball around the ten minute mark and pushed it into Nendrum’s defensive quarter resulting with a goal being scored despite great skills shown by Georgia Keddie, Zoe Birch and Megan Knox in defense. Lauren Burns made several impressive saves and was given player of the match for her hard work.
The team showed great determination and played their best. We are all looking forward to coming back even stronger for our next game!
