Chambers charges to victory in the Co. Down Schools' Cross Country Championships

In recent years cross country running has put Nendrum College firmly on the sporting map, particularly with the success of Joel McWillams et al finishing third on two successive occasions in the Co. Down Schools' Cross Country Championships, followed by a fifth place finish in the Ulster Schools' Cross Country Championships. On Thursday 9th February, in dull conditions, Joel Chambers shown brightly with a confident display of front running, to convincingly win the Co. Down Championships in the Mini boys' section. He was well supported by the other three scoring team mates of Ewan McIlwraith, Thomas Middleton, Charles Field and Ben McDowell, who all displayed the guts and determination that was so evident in the training for the race. When all the results were finalised, it was fantastic to see that the team had finished fourth out of 23 teams!

Casey Miskelly also did herself and the College proud with a confident run, culminating with a well executed finish, to claim third place. Both Joel and Casey will proceed to the Ulster Schools' Finals, where more success should be within their grasp.

Mr. McClure congratulated all 28 pupils from the College for their efforts and their team spirit that made the day so enjoyable for everyone.
