GCSE Technology and Design consists of three Units:

  • Unit 1: Technology and Design Core Content

  • Unit 2: Option C - Product Design

  • Unit 3: Design and Manufacturing Project

Unit 3: Design and Manufacturing Project

Controlled Assessment

 

Students complete a design

project comprising a design

portfolio and an associated

manufacturing task.

Teachers mark the design

project, and we visit centres to

carry out moderation.

Unit 1: Technology and Design Core Content (25%)

  • Designing

  • Manufacturing

  • Electronic control systems

  • Mechanical control systems

  • Pneumatic systems and control

  • Computer control systems

 

Unit 2: Option C – Product Design (25%)

  • Design and innovation

  • Manufacturing practices

  • Materials, components and fabrication

  • Market influences

  • Social responsibility of product design

 

Unit 3: Design and Manufacturing Project (50%)

Each pupil is given the CCEA theme, the pupil has to create a design portfolio and manufacture a product in relation to the set theme. The design portfolio consists of 10 A3 pages which shows development of concepts which concludes to the manufacturing of the final idea.
