Here at Nendrum College we as a Department seek to provide a broad and balanced programme of study which encompasses all aspects of the development of the pupil (emotionally, intellectually, ethnically, physically and creatively). We as a staff are enthusiastic in our approach and committed to making the pupils experience in PE both a positive and enjoyable one. Positive learning experiences will promote social and interpersonal skills, qualities and attitudes.
Aims of Physical Education
To develop the growth and physical attributes of each pupil according to his or her potential.
To develop the psychomotor ability of each pupil according to his or her potential.
To aid the personal and social development of the pupils.
To develop knowledge and understanding of the safety factors, principles, history, rules, terminology, mechanical principles and tactics in a range of physical activities.
To develop the ability to assess performance in physical activities and to become aware of the strength and limitations of oneself and others.
To promote the positive use of leisure time and encourage participation in games and physical activities as a means of recreation.
Key Stage 3
Units covered include:
Football, Badminton, Netball, Athletics, Swimming, Dance, Table tennis, and Fitness.
Assessment is made as teacher observes participation and presentation of each pupil. Peer and self evaluations are used.
Key Stage 4
GCSE examining board: CCEA
Component 1- Factors Underpinning Health and Performance;
*The body at Work
*Health and Lifestyle Decisions; and
*The Active Leisure Industry
This component account for 25% of the total marks and is assessed in a 1 h 15 minute written examination.
Component 2- Developing Performance
*Developing Physical Fitness for performance; and
*Developing Skilled Performance
This component is worth 25% of the total marks and is assessed in a 1 hour 15 minute examination.
Component 3- Individual performances in Physical Activities and Sports
In this component students are assessed on:
a) the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of performances in physical activities and sports; and
b) the quality of analysis and evaluation of perfomances.
Students must perform three physical activities or sports from the list proved by CCEA. At least two of the activities or sports must be centre controlled and carried out under the teachers' direct supervision. Students may be assessed in only one activity or sport with no direct teacher supervision.
