When Katie speaks it is worth listening to!

When people are quizzed about their fears the general responses include spiders, heights, visits to the dentist and public speaking. For Year 10 pupil Katie Graden public speaking holds no fears. Last month Katie won a local public speaking competition organised by Environmental Youth Speak 2015 with her presentation on recycling. This success secured her entry into the Northern Ireland Finals on Tuesday 10th March 2015, representing Ards Borough Council.

In front of an audience of 200 people Katie again delivered her presentation with confidence, clarity and expression. After intense deliberation Katie was declared a finalist amongst stiff competition.  What a fantastic achievement! Katie returned back to Nendrum with a huge smile on her face and an enormous trophy in her hand!

For many young people growing up their own individual talents are not entirely visible and patience twinned with an open mind are needed for it to manifest itself. Through an opportunity in her English class, coupled with the motivation and support from her teacher, Mrs Butler, a great unexpected accomplishment has been achieved.

Mr. McClure

We are all so proud of your achievements Katie and we wish you well with this newly found talent!
