The influence of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is rapidly expanding. New information and communication technologies, services and networks are transforming the way people live, work and learn.
ICT is concerned with how technology is and can be used to manage and process information. Today's computers and computer software are used to create, convert, access, store, organize, protect, present, communicate and transmit information in a variety of electronic forms.
The GCSE ICT qualification provide students with the technical knowledge, skills and understanding needed in a world increasingly dominated by the use of ICT systems. The study of ICT can also lead to careers in ICT management as well as people management, computer programming, database management, website design, website management or graphic design.

(ICT systems, how they work and how they are applied to everyday life)

This is a Level 2 qualification which is graded at Level 2 Pass, Level 2 Merit, Level 2 Distinction, Level 2 Distinction 2*.
The course consists of four units, each contributing 25% to the final grade.

YEAR 11
UNIT 1  - The Online World -Theory Exam (25%)
Within this unit pupils will:

 
  • Investigate online services and online communication.
  • Investigate components of the internet and how digital devices exchange and store information.
  • Investigate issues with operating online.
This is externally assessed using an onscreen test. The external assessment will last an hour. 

UNIT 4 - Creating Digital Animation - Internal Assessment (25%)
Within this unit pupils will:
  • Understand the applications and features of digital animation products.
  • Design a digital animation product
  • Create, test and review a digital animation product.


YEAR 12
UNIT 6 - Creating Digital Graphics- Internal Assessment (25%)


Within this unit pupils will:
  • Understand the applications and features of digital graphic products.
  • Design digital graphic products.
  • Create, test and review digital graphic products.

UNIT 3 - A Digital Portfolio - Internal Assessment (25%)
Within this unit pupils will:
  • Design a digital portfolio
  • Create and test a digital portfolio
  • Review the digital portfolio
